My Shih Tzu, Baxter, has separation anxiety. Since I brought him home at four months old, he has always known he was my dog. It’s wonderfully endearing, but it means that when I’m not around he works himself up and starts to shake and is literally waiting for me to come home. Yesterday, when my roommate came home for lunch, Baxter found the perfect-sized gap in the fence, created recently by the gardener, and escaped from the back yard. I rushed home and, for an hour and a half, ran around the neighborhood calling his name while my roommate drove circles around the area. We live only a block from a very busy street, and two blocks from a freeway entrance. Within only an hour and a half of panic, we received a call from PetLink that connected us with the vet’s where a kind college student named Tiffany had brought Baxter to look for a microchip. Tiffany had found Baxter six miles away at a baseball park. Thank God for PetLink!! And thank God for Tiffany! PetLink was so quick. The vet scanned Baxter, I got an email instantly, and I called them thirty seconds later. The microchip ensured a fast call directly to my cell phone and a quick reunion. Two hours later we were reunited and today the fence is $200 more reinforced.
