Like Punxsutawney Phil predicted: springtime is steadily on its way! For pet owners, there are a few things we can do to help our pets prepare for a great spring while satisfying our own need to start spring cleaning.
Clean Your Pet’s Beds
When you’re refreshing the sheets on your own bed, why not clean your pet’s bed as well? You can toss it in the wash or take the vacuum and give it a good cleaning to give your pet a fresh place to rest.
Clean and Sanitize Their Eating Area
Even if your pet isn’t the messiest eater in the world (like mine) it’s good to clean their food bowls and eating area prior to the changing season (and every month if necessary). Simply use hot water and your regular dish soap to clean everything including the food mat.
Tip: Let everything soak in hot water for a bit before scrubbing in case there is caked on food.
Update and Clean Toys
Going through your pet’s toy arsenal is a great way to cover a few things on your cleaning list. Wash all the toys that your pet uses the most (you can often put rubber toys right in the dish washer!) and get rid of all the broken/ripped ones that can’t be mended. Your pet will thank you for keeping their toys germ-free!
Clean or Replace Leashes and Collars
Weather can do a number on a pet’s collars, harnesses, and/or leashes. To gear up for spring, you might want to give your pet’s collars a good scrub before spring. If they are crazy dirty, you can grab your pet a new collar or harness from the PetLink Store. All PetLink’s collars and collar tags can be personalized with your pet’s microchip number!
Brush Your Cat and Wash Your Dog
Get ready for shedding! The best ways to handle your pets shedding their winter coats are as follows:
Give your dog a great bath with de-shedding shampoo and conditioner. These types of shampoos and conditioners are great to use if you listen to package directions.
For cats, head to your local pet store and get a great de-shedding brush, or clean the one you already have. You can use this time to bond with your cat, as well as relieve them of a heavy winter coat.
We hope that you and your pets are ready for a great spring!
