I met Tiye when she was born. She was the size of the palm of my hand and I knew it was meant to be that she was going to be my best friend. I brought her tiny, mixed breed self home when she was eight weeks old and had been seeing her almost everyday up until that point. I worked so hard to train her and mold her into the perfect, obedient companion. Now she was my best friend. When Tiye was three, I went through a bad break up and my ex held on to Tiye and all of my stuff knowing that it would upset me. After a few weeks I went to get some of my things and Tiye was gone. When I asked where Tiye was, the only response I got was “somewhere.” My best friend had been given away by my ex. I had relied on Tiye and she on me and now she was gone!
About a year and a half later, I received an email from PetLink and the subject read simply “We found Tiye.” My heart leaped! It was a Monday and the Humane Society that had her was closed which really made me lose it. I had waited so long and now had to wait another day. So, on Tuesday morning I went up there to try and see her, really to make sure that it was Tiye they had. Of course I knew she was chipped but when something this unbelievable happens your mind goes to strange places! That day I was the first person at the pound. I went in shaking and went into the small dog kennels to see if I could see Tiye. Would she even remember me? Was all of that training and teaching going to be thrown out the window? Would I have to start all over with her? Did she even want to come home with me? I didn’t see her at first and then I saw her little white paw sticking out. As soon as she saw me she went crazy! She was so excited and so happy that I didn’t even have to say a word. I fell to my knees and started crying because I couldn’t even believe it. I went up to the front office and Tiye jumped up and over the counter because she wanted to be with me so bad. I brought her home and it was like she had never left. She was exactly the same. She stays by my side night and day and is the best friend I could have ever asked for. Without PetLink I wouldn’t be celebrating my best friend’s sixth birthday today!
